Design changes 2021-2022

Bamboo ply and solid wood veneers were discontinued as regular production materials in favor of Baltic Birch Plywood so that we can roll out more exciting new products and craft technologies…stay tuned!

Tuned Thickness (TT) speaker enclosure technology and violin grade linseed oil

During the course of my search for better impulse response, clearer percussion instruments and a deeper, darker background during passages of complex music, I have invented a new speaker building technology that I’m calling Tuned Thickness. Each plywood panel of the speaker enclosure is now being made the appropriate thickness per its span. Larger panels are relatively thicker and smaller panels are made thinner. (On an Orca TT or Marlin TT, for instance, side panels -> thicker, top and bottom panels -> thinner). The result is a greater strength to weight ratio of the entire speaker enclosure as well as fewer and weaker resonance hot spots. Tuned Thickness construction distributes the resonance more evenly around the speaker enclosure the same way that an airplane wing is engineered to flex progressively along its length.

Internal bracing resembling what’s inside an acoustic guitar and frequency specific pre-tensioned acoustic damping materials (released 2018) are still being used for accurate resonance control. A non-toxic hand rubbed linseed oil finish product is now being custom made by a violin maker, further brightening the tonality and appearance of the speakers.

  • Full range designs are now the 3” Marlin TT and Orca TT, the 8” Triton TT, and the 4x8” Octopus TT.

  • New 8” TT and 12” TT passive subwoofer designs and outboard subwoofer amplifiers released Feb 2021.

  • Blumenstein speaker systems are engineered to run off of just a few watts of power which makes them compatible with single ended triode type amplifiers or almost any other type of tube or solid state amplifier.

Every speaker system I sell comes with one-on-one personalized service. Email, text, call, or make an appointment to facetime with me to get further assistance with properly setting up your speakers. Even if your Blumenstein speakers are now 18 years old, I want to make sure that you are still getting the best sound quality that they can deliver.

Happy Listening!

Sincerely,

Clark Blumenstein
